Origin Story

Most people hated 2020. And for good reason—it was hard! I hated it to, but not for the reasons you think. The team I was leading at the time was SOLID. Nearly 40 people strong we supported each other through the pandemic, didn’t lose any team members and doubled our revenue. While attending to the pandemic was hard—it was also some of the most professional fun I’ve ever had! We didn’t lose customers, they invested more. We launched new products, built the next wave of growth and emerged stronger than we could have ever imagined.

I hated 2020 because of the phone calls I was getting. My phone would not stop ringing. Colleagues were desperate for help. The calls went something like this. “I can’t keep up to my revenue goals. My CEO doesn’t care about me—they just want results. My team is ringing me dry. I’ve stepped down from leading the team and asked to become an individual contributor. We are losing clients and don’t know how to get more. I asked to cut my hours in half. I quit my job for one that pays a half because I couldn’t keep up. I don’t know what to do”.

These calls killed me. I felt guilty. My team was THRIVING and I was having a blast. But other teams were struggling.

Now, if I am honest 2020 was professionally a lot of fun—but personally was a challenge. My wife and I, both executives, had two small children at home. No more needs to be said. During the spring of 2020 a family hobby developed. Gardening. We dug up half of our yard (the kids were going to do it anyway right?), planted hundreds of perennial seeds and transformed a square piece of grass into our own little botanical paradise. By mid-summer we began to catch people taking pictures of what had grown as they walked by.

This was the beginning of The Kipos Group. When I received these phone calls I began to roll up my sleeves and help. At first it was in some spare time here and there-but it grew into something I loved doing. Helping other C-level leads go from a place of confusion to confidence, going from stuck to growth gave me so much joy!

Kipos is the Greek word for Garden. Out of the pain so many have endured these past few years we want to help you create something beautiful at your organization!
